Proactiv Customer Reviews – Is Proactiv The Answer to Acne?
Proactiv review – a critical look at the claims, results and what you can expect.

Proactiv claims
Proactiv claims to be The Answer for acne that works for everybody regardless of your age, skin type or severity of your acne. Proactiv claims to be different because it prevents future breakouts before they even surface on your skin – while other products only concentrate on getting rid of existing acne.
How Proactiv works
According to Proactiv’s web site Proactiv works by unclogging your skin pores and killing bacteria deep inside your skin pores.
Since Proactiv does nothing to the root cause of acne it can only manage your acne. They even admit this on their web site by saying that you have to keep using Proactiv even after your skin has cleared. A countless number of user reviews also confirm this – acne tends to breakout if you stop using Proactiv (and quite often even while you are still on it).
Proactiv can only be a temporary solution
And this holds true for any topical acne product. It’s not that the products would be bad. It’s the fact that they approach the problem from the wrong end.
Let’s take a brief example. Let’s say that you are in an unfortunate situation and find that your car is dirtied by bird droppings every morning. You naturally want to keep your car clean and wash it every day.
However, even if you would be using the best soap in the market it wouldn’t keep your car clean. Why? Because the soap does nothing to the fact that you park your car every evening under a tree that is full of well fed birds.
This same principle also applies to your skin. Proactiv (soap) can only do so much because dirt keeps dropping in. Once you understand what really causes acne you’ll see why Proactiv can’t be ‘the answer for acne’.
Side-Effects of Proactiv
Most people report that Proactiv irritates their skin. This is due to benzoyl peroxide, alcohol and other harsh chemicals in Proactiv. Especially if you have a sensitive skin, you can expect some of the following symptoms:
- Itchy skin
- Skin goes red
- Dry and flaky skin
Though it seems that many of the above mentioned symptoms are caused by the Revitalizing Toner step in Proactiv System. If you are concerned try using the toner only in the evening.
Also anything you apply on your skin will go through it burden the liver – which ends up aggravating your acne even more.
Contradictory what most people think the skin is quite porous and many substances pass through it easily. Or how do you think that nicotine patches work? So I would really think twice before applying dangerous and carcinogenic chemicals on my skin.
What users say about Proactiv
Like most acne treatments Proactiv gets a mixed feedback. It seems that about 60% of the reviews are on the positive side (note: mildly positive is also positive) while the rest would advice you to stay away from Proactiv.
The average user rating is something like this:
- Mild to moderate acne
- Acne reduces/ clears completely within the first few weeks
- Skin becomes itchy, dry and red
- Acne breakouts continue a week or two after the use of Proactiv is stopped
Note that that is just the ‘average’ user feedback. There are people that get no results or that report that Proactiv actually makes their acne much worse. Also some users say that Proactiv is fantastic, it completely clears their skin and has no side-effects.
Should I use Proactiv?
That’s a question I can’t decide for you.
Just remember that, no matter what the celebrities or other Proactiv reviews say, Proactiv is not the answer for acne. Because it does nothing to the root cause of acne your results, if any, will probably be short-lived.
So don’t consider Proactiv, or any other topical treatment for that matter, as your only option. Think of them more as support arsenal to your other efforts to cure acne.
Instead of Proactiv, I recommend you take a look at Clear Skin Max. It’s an interesting new acne treatment. They only use scientifically proven, natural ingredients. Which means that with Clear Skin Max you’ll have a lot less side-effects than with Proactiv. Click here to read my Clear Skin Max review.

Comments on Proactiv Customer Reviews – Is Proactiv The Answer to Acne?
proacvtiv – ingenius invention
I started using proactiv about three months ago, and my skin has come very far. On a scale like this:
5= Great; 4= Good; 3= O.K.; 2= Bad; 1= Horrible
I would give proactiv a 4.
It hasn’t worked completely yet, but i have only been using it for 3 months. I’m sure it will clear my skin. Also, it dries the hell out of your skin. Oh lord, even with the step 3 lotion repairing treatment, my skin still gets uncontrollably dry. Use a non-comedogenic face lotion to help dryness.
My Experience With Proactiv
Okay so the first 2 months I used proactiv it kept my acne under control but not completely clear. I still had a little bit of small bumps on my cheeks and chin . But no itchiness or dryness or anything.
Then on the third month my skin started to get dry then it started getting super red & itchy! I stopped using it for two days & it stopped then I used it again and again my face got red and itchy!
I had to put oatmeal on my face to calm it down & it worked. Then I waited three more days & tried it again for the last time & again red & itchy.
So yeah …. my experience hasn’t been so great.
My Results… not so good
I have been using Proactive for about 2 years now, and to be honest it has not worked well for me.
I would have to mix different Acne treatments just to get the results I was looking for. It also doesn’t prevent it, when I would start to get my skin looking clear and I would take a break from it for a day all my acne would be back.
So if you decide to try this product I would suggest washing your face two times a day without missing a day because you don’t know what could happen.
It works great – for the first 12 weeks!
Proactiv cleared up my skin. Then I stopped because apparently 12 year olds are too young for it. I eventually went back on it and it partially cleared up my skin. I am still looking for a new product.
It sucked.
I have very fair and sensitive skin, and used Proactiv for almost a year. It was working okay, not great, not bad, just okay.
But at a certain point, my skin got EXTREMELY dry, red and itchy. It was very embarrassing and hard to cover up.
So I immediately stopped using it. My skin got less red and itchy each day and eventually went back to normal.
After a long time of not using it I decided to try it just one more time, but the same cycle happened again.
I completely canceled my subscription and will never use it again. :\ I’m now using the Neutrogena Wave Cleansing Pads and it has been working 10 times better than Proactiv ever did.
Ouch!
ProActiv did not work for me at all. It made my skin itchy, RED AS A HOT CHILLY PEPPER, and dry with dead skin everywhere! On top of that, it hurt! make up would not cover it up at all. My advice, don’t get proactiv unless your skin is suitable for harsh chemicals and peroxides.
Worked at first and then stopped
I used Proactiv and it kept my skin beautiful for over four years. It stopped working for me so I took a break from it and I want to start it again to see if it will work for me again.
Helped a little, but not like I’d hoped.
I’m 16 years old, and I struggle with acne. I always have to wear my bangs in my face so no one can see it as well. To make matters worse, I get acne on my chest, and back. So I always have to miss the pool parties my friends have because I’m so ashamed.
I got proactiv at the end of February this year, and at first I saw no difference. But my skin began to get a little better, but now, it’s just gone back to normal and it clears up for a week, then goes bad again.
I want to stop using Proactiv, but I don’t want my skin to break out really bad if I do. So I’m stuck paying $30 a month on a skin care system that doesn’t do the job it was supposed to. I wouldn’t recommend it, but everyone’s skin is different, it may work for someone else.
proactiv the untrue and the most untrue of all acne products
did proactiv told you that they would clear your pimples? did proactiv tell you that it would clear you up no matter how severe you acne is? did proactiv tell you it would make your face glowy?
well ill tell you my friend at first i do believe them but the sad part is none of it is true i have been on proactiv for 5 months and nothing had changed actually making my acne alot worst and made my skin ugly it made it dark and flaky
Proactiv….
My sister and I have the worst breakouts sometimes, so my mom bought us the product, thinking that it would help out so much because all we heard about it, was that it is SO great and it will clear anything. We got it and was so excited to try it. For about the first couple of weeks it really showed results, but then it got worse and worse and stopped working. This product is a waste of money. No matter how much it looks like it works, IT doesn’t. But our skin type is very oily. I would give it a 1 out of 10.
Know what ur talkin about
If u have ever purchased proactiv u would know that the dermatologists that made it makes it pretty clear that there is NO cure for acne at the root so yea your right they admit that it only controls it because that’s all u can do, there’s nothing to cure it, so yea id imagine people are confirming that, that’s why when u stop using it it comes back!!. Don’t knock it before u try it. And i don’t care if u post this or not
So good so far!!
I had mild acne all through my teen years and it really affected how social i was. I have tried a lot of store products and none seemed to really work. So i decided I had to do something about this and i ordered proactiv.
I was pretty skeptical at first reading all the reviews about it because i have sensitive skin. I have been using the products once a day because i tend to get dry skin, and i am already seeing great results and its only been a couple days. My blemishes have changed in size and color, and my face has never felt better.
I heard a lot of people say their face gets really dry and using the green tea moisturizer really helps this, if its still dry use it once a day or every other day, everyone’s skin is different.
I am usually someone to breakout from a product due to my sensitive skin, but its definitely worth a try, you will never know if it works until you try. And don’t listen to all reviews because people may not be using them correctly or just needed to cut down.
Proactiv. To use or not to use?
Proactiv claims that 100% users will have great results. As for me, it did make my skin softer, prettier, but however did not get rid of ALL my acne, like promised. I had it all over my nose, chin, and forehead. Yet i still have it on my forehead! I suggest not to buy the whole thing, but to separately purchase the refining mask. IT makes your skin absolutely gorges! I have it on right now.Hope I helped
Proactiv
I’ve just started using Proativ about 4 days and my face has broke out more since using it.I’m not sure if that’s how it works, you know it makes your face break out to “clean it”.
My face hasn’t been red or hasn’t burned a little the first few days, but now it’s red after I use it and it kinda burns for a few minutes. It’s starting to clear my skin up but i’m not sure if it’s worth using if it’s making my face red and burn.I’m only 16 but like every teenage girl I want clear skin.If Proativ keeps making my face red and burn but clears up my acne is it worth it?Or should I try something else and if so what?
I used proactive in high school cause I would break out here and there. I never really had bad skin I just wanted great skin… My problem was that I always pick at zits…
So I stopped using proactive and my skin actually was fine but now I’m 20 and decided hey I had nice skin 2 years ago maybe I should try proactive again and I did…
It seriously made me breakout so bad that I realized the only reason my skin was better before is because I stopped picking and over washing.
Now I use cetaphil and Aveeno which my skin feels great. Proactive causes dead skin cells from the dryness and your skin will end up producing more oil causing bacteria= breakouts.
So no To proactive it’s disappointing and makes me mad how they will tell you to keep using it in order for it to work when in fact that’s just buying them time for your 60 risk free days!!!
Acne clearing after one week
I have been using the product for just over a week, now. And I am pleased with the acne going away, but my face is constantly stinging. It’s starting to flake.
depends on your skin type
i have sensitive skin but i started off using the regular proactive solution. it made my face burn as soon as i started using the product. i switched to the sensitive solution and i noticed a difference right away.
i have little bumps in my skin that i thought wouldn’t be treatable but it took them away within the first week. i also have little red spots and areas on my face, mainly my nose and under my eyes, but after only a couple weeks the redness went away. the cleaner made my face feel really fresh and it had a nice smell to it. the moisturizer is amazing! it makes even bumpy skin feel smooth to the touch.
i ran out of the product and haven’t ordered more yet so the little bumps and redness are coming back, but this product really did work for me.
Phototoxic reaction (really!!) – Melasma
Proactiv cleared up my major break-outs, but not the small bumps. After a year or so of use, I started to get Melasma (brown spots on cheeks and sometimes upper lip – usually due to hormonal imbalance). After tests showed that my hormones were normal, and other causes were ruled out, I saw an esthetician who told me it was more than likely a phototoxic reaction caused by benzoyl peroxide. I looked it up, and sure enough…she was right!!
Proactive works… but is horribly addictive.
I never had bad acne. I just wanted to find something that would keep me from getting it in the future. I ordered Proactive and it automatically worked for me. I used it once a day until I noticed that it wasn’t working the same way. I switched to twice a day, and that worked fine.
My order came really late once, and I had run out of the cleanser, so I had to switch to something new. I tried Neutrogena. Within a week my face was worse than it ever had been before. I had really bad acne everywhere.
When proactive FINALLY came, I got back on it immediately. It cleared up my skin, but I realized that I’d never be able to stop using it.
I’m trying to find anything that’ll get me off the stuff. I’m tired of being a slave to it.
Proactiv Didn’t Work for Me
I tried Proactiv after I had heard how good it was and also being promoted by Jessica Simpson.
The first few days things were going great, my face felt refreshed and not irritated. However by the end of the first week, I was noticing my pores were all clogged and I had broken out all over chin, nose and forehead.
I religiously kept continuing the routine for 6 weeks straight and it just didn’t work for my skin unfortunately
I’m really disappointed with this products effectiveness.
Proactiv won’t solve acne problem
Proactive is a good product overall but when I stopped using it for just one day I broke out terribly. It has to be used everyday. I don’t recommend it.
4 Days and skin looks better
I just started using It four days ago and already I can tell that my skin looks a whole lot better, we’ll see what happens when i stop using it.
5 Weeks and no results; disappointed
I’ve tried, and am still currently using, pro-activ, and it’s been about 5 weeks now. It is not working, it seems that there is more acne than usual, and I’m really disappointed. I have literally tried almost everything out there, and pro-activ was my last resort. I don’t recommend it, unfortunately.
Worked for me
Personally, I think it all depends on what your skin is like. Just because you got dry flaky skin, doesn’t mean someone else will.
I never did, Proactiv worked great for me. As long as you use it the RIGHT way, and don’t over wash your face, it should work perfect.
Don’t waste your time on Proactiv.
Proactive actually made my acne twice as bad. My acne was bad to begin with, but when i started buying those over priced bottles, my acne became extremely red and flaky.
I also know other people that have had bad experiences with proactive.
I get better results with out using anything, only a nutrigena bar soap.
Pro Active User
Within the first week if using Pro Active, my face became flawless…I had no blemishes whatsoever and all my pimples had gone.
However, after about a week my face began to get really dry and eventually flaky. After this, I started to notice red patches on my face which were very itchy and stung.
I had stopped using Pro Active at that point.
I am currently back on Pro Active because I beleive that if you use the product in moderation, such as for example only use the moisturiser 3 times a week, it really works!
i love proactive!!!
i was so afraid of getting scars from getting pimples in the same places over and over again, i don’t need to know the “root” cause of acne to know that proactiv clears up my skin!!
even though i stopped using it for a week, nothing happened! my skin stayed smooth and soft and clear.
I have no allergies to benzoyal peroxide and when i purchased proactiv they warned me about the itchy skin i might get if i were allergic so i knew what would happen and was fully aware of that and their warranty if i was not totally pleased with the results
i reccomend Proctiv to anyone who has moderate to light acne and who doesn’t have any allergies to the chemicals they use, which is true for any product you use…”natural” or otherwise
Proactiv is a no brainer it’s totally worth it!!!
Proactiv irritated my skin
My skin has always been clear, except for the odd zit, but recently my face broke out in pimples that were under the skin.
After seeing a Proactiv commercial I rushed to my mall and bought the 3-step package. It irritated my skin, made it red and I actually noticed that more little bumps started to form under the skin. If that wasn’t enough, my skin started to flake! Imagine my displeasure when this started to happen after I went to the drugstore and purchased all sorts of oil-free makeup and cotton pads.
I wasn’t aware of the fact that acne would start to reappear if use was discontinued- and I just can’t see myself paying $70 every time it runs out, so I’ve decided to chuck it. I’m also currently trying to persuade my mom to get me an appointment with a dermatologist.. but we’ll see how that goes.
I love Proactiv!
I had acne for 5 years on my shoulders, pet and back. In Italy there is only the Gentle Formula (with salicylic acid and retinol instead of BP). After 30 days, using 3 step kit morning and night, my acne is COMPLETELY clear and my spots are gone!! And I had severe acne with papules and cysts and red spots..I love it!
The only bad thing is that it’s sooo expensive in Italy.
Worked well for 3 years
Worked well for 3 years. I had the occasionally monthly premenstrual zit, but that was it. But after it stopped working it made my skin worse. Plus Proactiv is very expensive.
I guess this product works well with others. It did for me, but now I’m breaking out even more, and I’m about to get married so I’m stuck. Depressing.
Proactiv is not for everyone
Proactiv cleared my acne a bit, but it also made my skin really dry. So people with sensitive skin should probably stay away from this. People with tough skin could use this and it would probably help, but everybodys skin is different and not one of the acne systems out there is going to work for everyone
Proactiv worked for few months
First couple of months on Proactiv were great. My skin was clear. But then my skin seemed to adapt to it and it did nothing anymore. Now my skin is ridiculously oily and Proactiv does nothing to control it. I just break out the same now than I did before starting to use it.
You guys need to be very careful of purchasing your proactive products using your credit card. They will trick you and keep sending the products and at the same time withdrawing money from you bank account. I have been trying to contact them and cancel my order. But they still keep sending and withdrawing it.
It is kinda annoying the way they do their business, i think it is a rip off..!
I started using Proactiv two years ago. When I first started using it my skin got really flaky, dry and my skin felt really tight. It also burnt. after a while my skin got used to it. It did help my acne clear up but not completely. It bleached all of my pillows, towells and clothes. It even bleached my hair! It made my skin extra sensitive to the sun so I couldn’t stay out in the sun for 10 minutes without getting burnt and it dried my skin out. I got sick of the bleached towells, clothes and hair. I cancelled it and I think it’s the best decision I have mmade.
I started using Proactive about four years ago and when I first started to use it, it would dry my face out really bad, but after I started using it for a while I really started to see a positive effect on my skin and on my acne. After the first couple of weeks, after my skin had gotten use to the product I could see a major difference in my acne. I didn’t have anymore of those little white heads and big red pimples that would make my face look like I had craters on them. Haha. Well all in all I would deffinatley recommend this product if you are looking for somethng that is going to work and work fast. I love the 3 step system it is easy to use and easy to remember to do twice a day. Many reviews say that Proactive will give you red, dry skin and to start off with it will for the first week or so but then you have smooth skin, many people don’t realize that they have skin problems and that the Proactive i irritating their skin because there skin is sensative, but if you don’t have sensative skin then this is the product to use.
I usually use ProActiv, but I wanted to try something new which was healthier with less chemicals. I read bad reviews of all the harmful chemicals in proactive. My mother who is in her 60′s and looks like she is in her 30′s, recommended Made from Earth.
I have a bit of adult acne and she recommended the Made from Earth Grapefruit Glycolic Scrub, and it works just as well as ProActiv. I used it for a couple of days, and saw results right away. Overall, my skin looks much better than before I used it. I didnt use any of their moisturizers but I would recommend the Grapefruit Glycolic Scrub.
I am 28 years old and I have been fighting acne since 5th grade. And not the 2 or 3 pimples you see on the people on tv who say they have acne, i mean the real kind.
It goes through it’s ups and downs, sometimes I will go months and it will be ok, and other times it gets HORRIBLE. My sister started using Proactive and it cleared her skin up really well so she bought me some and I figured what the heck, might as well give it a shot. I used it for about 2 months and it did clear my skin up VERY well. I had people complimenting me all the time on how well my skin was looking. I do have sensitive skin so instead of using it twice a day as it says I only use it once a day, and I have not had any of those red itchy problems that some people say they get, so maybe that has helped. So it definitely works to clear up the kind of acne I had, which is the usual white heads, red blemishes etc… HERE IS MY DISCLAIMER!
Never and I mean NEVER in my life have I ever had one of those cysts, or the “cystic acne”. And neither has my sister who uses proactive either. We both noticed, that when we use proactive we will get once in a while these cysts. Our skin will be gorgeous on top, smooth and blemish free, but then we will get these little painful areas, usually darker, and slightly elevated, with make up sometimes you would not even know it’s there, but I know it’s there, and it usually hurts. They never come to the surface, and usually take a long time to go away. For anyone who doesn’t know, or has never had what I am talking about, they are not merely pimple that are under the skin. You can literally run your hand over it and it almost feels like a little blister that is wayyy under the skin, so far under that you really can’t even do anything. I mean I have had those hard under the skin pimples that, I know you shouldn’t, but I will fight with to pop just to relieve the pain. But these you can’t!
So like I said, they stay under the skin, usually do not get very raised, but cause a darker area on my face, that with make-up you really can’t see. So in using proactive I am on the fence. It clears up my skin, leaves it smooth of my regular acne, but I have to deal with these cysts now every once in while. I don’t know if it’s because proactive keeps the surface so clean that being that the bacteria don’t make it to the surface they make these little cysts underneath or what, but like I said… NEVER have I had these before and neither has my sister and we BOTH get them when we are on proactive. So you have to weigh the pros and cons. I still use the proactive when I have a bad breakout. so I will use it for a couple months and take breaks. Usually the little cysts don’t start until my face is completely cleared of my “usual” acne. When that happens I stop the proactive. So I do not use the proactive nonstop, I don’t know what would happen with these cysts if I did. And I only use it once a day instead of 2 so it doesn’t dry my face out.
Unfortunately it’s just a little cycle that I am sure I will have to repeat all the time, and dealing with one of those little cysts is easier for me than having an entire face full of red, on the surface, zits. You have to take the good with the bad sometimes I guess. Until I find a better treatment, I guess I will stick with this one
I am 14 years old. And I dont have severe acne, but its enough to notice.. I started breaking out. So my mother ordered it for me thinking it would help. When it arrived I was so excited because i really thought it would work. So I used it for the first time before I went to bed.. My face was itching so bad in the middle of the night that it woke me up. When I woke up the next morning I looked in the mirror and noticed i had a bright red rash all over my face.. I wasn’t too worred I just thought it was the effects of the first use. Then as my day progressed my face got EXTREMELY itchy and irritated.. I went into the bathroom at school and I noticed I had hives all over the side of my cheeks, chin, and neck. I was terrified. I tried washing my face with a paper towel, but it didnt work. So i kind of just hid my face and went home. Then when I got home I went on the computer and looked up the effects and I see a lot of people have the same problem. What scared me is most people get it like 2 weeks after they use it.. It took less than 24 hours to show up on my face. My suggestion is, if you dont have extremely bad acne I dont think you should use it. The chemicals are just too strong, and harsh for most skin types. I think the proactive comercials send the wrong message. Like its this amazing system that works so well. It fails to mention that its not for everyone. So it makes us think its for the average person.. And clearly its not.. Also before you put it on your face make sure you are ready for the possible effects. I know I will never use it again..
I have been using pro active for about 12 weeks and has worked fantastic for me so far. I had good skin all my life until about 19 and then I got hit with full blown acne not a single mm of my face wasnt covered, it has continued on for 5 years and I think I have tried every product. To make things worse I started getting these pimples that are like pancakes under the skin so yu cant actually get them out of your pore the only way is to get them cut out because they can cause bad infections but alas Proactive is the only solutiion that has worked for me so far with no redness, itchiness, dryness or flaking. Now I will only get that 1 HUGE PIMPLE around menstral times and the beauty of proactive is it doent hurt. I still worry from reading other reviews that proactive will completely stop working for me, but in the mean time I am enjoying the fact that everyday my face feels clean and oil free.
It worked good for the first few weeks, after that, the results were inconsistent. My skin would get extremely clear for a day or two, and then back to normal. It’s worked better than most products I’ve tried, so I’ll give it that…..BUT it has completely dried out my skin almost to the point of no return, when you put it on your face gets red and greasy looking, AND I have notice since I started using this product I am getting fine lines around my eyes and mouth, I am 16 and have never had wrinkles in my life till I used this stuff. Besides the fact that they rip you off-I ordered, according to the offer, $25 every 3 months proactive shipment of small bottles, well I got that in the mail and three months later I got a bigger shipment which was odd because I never ordered that, they also billed me $90 for it. They cheat you in the deal. Anyways, don’t use this at all, not unless you want to age.
First off its very normal that when you switch products your skin breaks out. Seriously it might take weeks before your skin starts getting used to the new regiment. So dont think that just because its not working in 3 days it means that its never going to work for you. As far as the itching and redness I have never gotten that from proactive and i dont know of anybody else who has ever gotten it. I have literally tried everything on gods green earth. And proactive time and time again has worked out for me. However i do offer a caution i know tons of people that get screwed by the billing BS so i suggest that you pay with a visa gift card =P works for me everytime
Proactiv is the worse acne product you can buy!
K I’m 13 yes old and my acne is terrible! I thought of using some acne products and I saw that many people were using proactiv, so I decided I would use it. After the first 3 weeks I saw good results and I got a girlfriend. After those weeks acne started to grow in my face again mostly in the nose and sideburns! It was a nightmare and it was 4 days before the dance! I thought I could use the refining mask but it just kept growing and growing and I can’t stop it now!!! And at the dance my girlfriend brokeup with me because to her I look like a troll now… T.T! F*** Proactiv!!
This is BS for me….
I tried using that but my skin gets very dry, i thought their new system will not make my skin very dry like this…
I called the customer service they said that they will return my money for 2 packages, bfore they said that one of the package ‘the money back guarantee” is expired…. well its a 60 days money back = BS!!! the shipping from them to me is 30days + the days that i use it + the day that i return it, it takes 4-6 weeks for them to receive it = how many days??? more than 60 days, then they said its expired…. BS!!!
but the customer service said they will extend it, and guess what i already shipped 2 packages but still get charge on my credit card, and i called again tey said that 1 package cant return my money back!! WTH??
OMG im so pissed right now!!! the shipping is not cheap, if i know that they will not return my money, i wont send it,,,but the thing is that they said i CAN get my money back!! ahhhhhhhhkkk
@Sarah:
When i first started using Proavtiv my face felt really clean, fresh and smooth, although it did have the annoying tingling burning sensation but this went away soon enough and now it doesnt sting at all. It also caused my skin to flake in the areas where the pimples were yellow but i think this was just the process of the pus and bacteria etc drying up and how else is it supposed to leave the body, simply evaporate? I recommend trying out proactiv, following the instructions and using it daily.
I found that the Oil Free Moisturiser helped sooth my skin when i had the burning sensation so apply that if your skin becomes dry or stings. It also has sunscreen in it that doesnt flare up your acne so it perfect from protecting from the sun which is acne’s best friend.
If you want to get rid of any red inflammation, i suggest you apply an ice/ice pack to the areas for at least around 20 mins a few times a day and i bet you’ll see a difference. It stops the blood from rising to the surface causing the redness.
If you need to cover up your skin with make-up make sure you use oil-free products that dont clog your pores. I find a liquid foundation applied with a powered foundation on top works great.
Hope it works out for you. Remember, acne is just another human thing that happens to alot of people like having a scar on your leg or your arm in a cast. If anyones sad enough to stare or judge then they’ll get their karma soon enough. Trust me. Ance is just a part in life which helps to teach us whats really important. Everthing we do on Earth is a lesson to make us stronger and more wiser for the next dimension to the Summerland.
Peace Out.
@Gymnastgirl: It would be one thing if the s*** actually worked. I bought proactive about 6 months ago. I though it would work for my skin, my skin has never looked worse. If you call them to order they are very nice, but if you have a problem don’t even bother calling them. If you try to cancel your orders, that’s not the end of it. You will soon find out that because you ordered the first you will now be billed for 3 more shipments of the 90 day supply (which will be shipped ever 30 days haha), even if you’ve only ordered the 30 day supply.
Buy something organic that you can buy when you have the money and when you need it.
I used proactiv but it made my skin worse and has left scars all over my face. I would totally NOT recommend proactiv. also, they’re thieves.. they took an extra 19.95 out of my credit card and i’ve called them multiple times to refund it but they say they just “can’t.” even though they admitted that i was right. anyways, do NOT buy proactiv. definitely not worth it. in addition, i called to order and they were extremely nice. but when i called to cancel, they were seriously freaking mean and they even wanted the name of my doctor (wth?)
I was so excited when my proactiv came in the mail. I didn’t have acne way bad or anything, I’m pregnant so my hormones just started going crazy. Sadly though, the more I used it, the more my face broke out. Ever since I’ve eased off using it, my face has actually gotten better. It made my face dry in all the wrong places, and my skin looked way pinker than normal. I’ve even used prescription Benzoyl Peroxide before, and it didn’t make my face pink. A couple weeks after getting the $29.95 trial size, I recieved the full size in the mail, along with a credit card charge of $39.95, so didn’t even open it. I called to return it and the customer service rep told me to send the package back un-used and I would be reimbursed for everything but the shipping. So I sent it back. Three weeks later another charge of $29.95 was charged to my card. It’s now been 5 weeks since I sent the package back, and no credits have been made so I finally called. The customer service guy said they have no records of receiving the package. I informed them I have the UPS tracking number that says someone signed for it almost 4 weeks ago, to which he replied if it’s not in the system there is nothing he can do right now. Then he went on to say they’ll send me a form in about three weeks that I will need to fill out and prove I sent a package to them, and that was absolutely the quickest way I could get refunded. I really didn’t hate the product or anything, it just didn’t work for me. After going through this hassell with customer service though, I wouldn’t reccomend Proactiv to anybody. They are extremely un-helpful, and they didn’t even care about a tracking number and proof of delivery. Basically what I took away from the experience is the customer is always wrong. Blah.
I used Proactiv several years ago and it only worked a little bit…so i decided to try it again and just started using it again for a week. My skin felt sooo soft the first ehh..3 days i guess…didn’t help my acne at all and now, my skin near my mouth and the right side of my cheek is dry and itchy as hell, and it sometimes burns. I was stupid enough to fall for another commercial saying how WONDERFUL and amazing this product was. I spend $60 on this product and I feel like after reading reviews about this product on the internet, i never want to use it again!! It seems as if more than 89% of people have had the same side effect after using this Proactiv product! Is this a scam or what? Nothing has been working for my acne and i’m running low on hope. I though Proactiv was going to be my confidence booster, my skin saver, but nope. I can’t believe we paid so much to have our face turn red, iritated, and burn. What a rip off. Proactiv is a joke.
I would never recommend Proactive Acne Care. Why?
* first bottle bought was such a small trial size, I didn’t even think it was what I ordered. Especially for the money.
* when they AUTOMATICALLY sent the second bottle, which I did not realize they did, it was huge and then they proceeded to charge my credit card 3 months in a row. With the first of these 3 charges, I contacted the company stating I never ordered this. At that time I was told it was automatic and it was around $20. When I received the 2nd credit card charge of around $30, that’s when I was told they spread the amont over 3 months, with a total of over $90.
* then when my son had a reaction to Proactive and tried to return it, they said my satisfaction date had expired.
*every time I talked with a representative, I would get a different answer
* Proactive totally dried out my son’s face and eventually caused his face to turn red and burn.
* customer service reps were rude and the company misrepresents their policies just to cram their product into your hands while taking your money.
* I asked them to remove me from their system and to this day they still have my information including my credit card.
Works AMAZINGLY!
I’ve used proactive for a year and a half now and its done nothing but amazing things for my skin. I used to have bad acne and I tried everything. Then I got proactive and it worked! It dried out my skin a little but it cleared my ance up for the most part. I’d still get a pimple or two around my period but other than that I had perfect skin.
Its a bit expensive. If you order off tv you get the month supply for $19.95 but every month you get bigger “3 month supply” bottles that cost around $30 each. It get pretty expensive but I think its totally worth it. I recommend this.
Proactiv ruined my skin & my liver!!!
I started using Proactiv when I was about 15 or 16 and used it consistently for about 7 or 8 years. Overall, my skin cleared up amazingly and the cream bleached all of my scars and redness. On the outside, my body looked healthy and clear. On the inside however, there was much more harm being done. Because our skin is porous and absorbs what we put on it, all of the chemicals that I was putting on my face had started to leech through my skin and into my blood stream. For many years I got along okay with no side effects. A couple of years ago though, I started to have huge digestive problems along with other problems that I had never dealt with previously. Since our liver/gallbladder is responsible for many things such as filtering toxins from our blood, producing bile for digestion, regulating blood fat etc. you can see why I believe that using Proactiv for many many years has not helped with the situation and has overburdened my liver even more.
Another thing that I noticed while using Proactiv is that while it would not allow the toxins to come out of my face, they would come out of my back and chest. I had never suffered from this problem before.
I stopped using Proactiv about 6 months ago, and it has been really really hard. About a week after I stopped, I had quite a large amount of blemishes coming out of my cheeks, jawline & forehead. It is quite severe at this point. My face is red and all of the scars that I had been bleaching with the repairing lotion are now revealed for the world to see. My back and chest are clear because everything is coming out of my face.
Please, before you start using Proactiv, think about the inner body and any imbalances that you may be experiencing inside. For many teens, it is a matter of the hormones fluctuating, which should clear up by the time we are in our early 20′s. For myself, I have learned that I have a sluggish liver, and a hormonal imbalance. The two may be closely related as well. I am currently taking care of my body inside and doing my best to heal what I have damaged over the years. It takes everything I have to go out into the world everyday and show my scars and blemishes, but I know that I am doing the right thing for myself and that eventually it will pay off and my body will start to do what it was intended to do.
So again, please do not let your body become reliant on Proactiv. you will regret it, and it will have a long-term toll on your body.
I’m 19 and thanks for your comments I not going to use proactive. I decided while watching a proactive commercial to buy it but before pay for it I also decided to read some reviews first.. thanks for share your results.
PROACTIV IS A HORRIBLE IDEA!
They are a bunch of scam artists, to start. I did not ever sign up for automatic shipping of orders that would be assigned to me based on the trial order I purchased, yet I was sent a large package of way too many things. When I called to ask them about it, they rudely informed me I owed a large amount of money on that package and one that was about to be sent. Very sneaky and un-professional of a company to pull a stunt like that.
NOT TO MENTION their products will dry your skin out so much so that most acne cannot form, but irritates it to the point that you would rather have a few blemishes than blotchy, red skin all over. And I’m not alone at all of you read more reviews! What a crappy company all together.
“”"” Never and I mean NEVER in my life have I ever had one of those cysts, or the “cystic acne”. “”"” i GET THESE TOO. i’VE STARTED TO GET THEM EVER SINCE MY SKIN STARTED TO CLEAR UP, I’VE NEVER HAD BAD ACNE, BUT IVE HAD PIMPLES HERE AND THERE… NOW I GET OCCASIONAL PIMPLES AND THESE CYCSTS ALL THE TIME…I AM AFRAID TO STOP USING PROACTIVE because i think it might get so much worse now that my skin wants the cleaning and is trained to be washed daily… “”"”"” They are a bunch of scam artists, to start. I did not ever sign up for automatic shipping of orders that would be assigned to me based on the trial order I purchased, yet I was sent a large package of way too many things. I HAVE HAD MY DEBIT CARD CHARGED SO MANY TIMES FOR PRODUCTS I DIDNT ORDER WHEN I ACTUALY ORDERED SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THEY TELL YOU TO JUST SEND THE PRODUCT BACK AND THEY WILL SEND YOU WHAT EVER YOU DID ORDER, BUT YOU GET CHARGED TWICE. WHEN I FIRST SIGNED UP THEY WOULD APPOLOGIZE AND SAY HOW ABOUT WE SEND YOU A FREE GREEN TEE MOSTURIZER? AND REAL YOU IN…A MONTH OR TWO DOWN THE ROAD ONCE YOUR FIGHTING WITH THEM ABOUT THE THIRD ORDER THEY SCREWED UP THEY WILL SAY OH WELL, SUCKS TO BE YOU, PAY IT OR IT GOES TO COLLECTIONS. I EVEN ASKED FOR PAPER BILLING WHICH THE REP SAID SHE SWITCHED IT TOO AND WAS STILL GETTING CHARGED ON MY CARD ALTHOUGH MY CARD WAS NO LONGER ON THE ACCOUNT. THEY ALWAYS SCREW UP MY ORDER STILL TO THIS DAY. TODAY I ACTUALY CANCELED PROACTIVE AND NOW I AM SO AFRAID< I WANT TO CALL AND START IT AGAIN. I HAVE SUCH HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES WITH THEM AND WHEN IM ON THE PHONE WITH THE REPS I JUST WANT TO YELL AT THEM. THEY EACH TELL YOU SOMETHING DIFFRENT AND NONE OF THEM EVER SAY THE CORRECT THING. THEY BILL YOU FOR STUFF YOU DONT WANT AND DONT EVER WANT TO HELP FIX YOUR ORDERS, I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR ALMOST A YEAR AND I SWEAR TO YOU, MY ORDER WAS MAYBE RIGHT ONCE. THIS IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE AND STRESSFUL. I HATE THIS COMPANY…
THIS IS ALL SO TRUE——> “”"”"I would never recommend Proactive Acne Care. Why?

YOUR SKIN WILL GET TRAINED TO IT AND YOU WILL BE IN HELL FROM THAT DAY ON. PAYING OVER $30 IN PRODUCTS EACH MONTH + THE $19.50 EVERY OTHER MONTH FOR THEIR OCCATIONAL “MISTAKES” WHICH YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR TIME TO FIX AND SIT ON THE PHONE FOR AN HR ENDING WITH THEM SENDING YOU A RETURN LABEL AND ASKING YOU TO MAKE THE TRIP TO THE POST OFFICE AND GET YOUR RECIPT FOR PROOF….THIS COMPNAY IS SOOOO BAD….DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT INFORMATION!!!!!
I do recommend Proactiv for people with light to severe acne. Which means ALL acne. You can’t get mad at the Proactiv company for making your face breakout, or burn. It is your responsibility to go to your dermatologist and see if you could be allergic. Nowadays you can’t just put anything on your face. Also, you need to buy kits. When you buy the kits you need to follow the procedure because that may be the only way for it to work. You can’t free style it and see the results. It won’t work like that! I do recommend even though I started using this yesterday (6-6-2011). My bumps are visibly smaller and are on the way to dissapeared. AFTER THE REPAIRING LOTION, PUT SOME GREEN TEA MOISTURIZER WHEREVER IT FEELS TINGLY. WHEN IT FEELS TINGLY IT ONLY MEANS IT IS WORKING. FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE DAY AND NIGHT, 1,2,3. ONLY 3 STEPS. I RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL PEOPLE WITH ACNE! YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO GET THE GOOD STUFF!
The celebs who push this product should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. This company is terrible and has made their money off of smart marketing and then literally stealing money from customers.
I ordered a trial sample for $17.00, received my package, used it for a week and had horrible results – then before I could even blink – I received a second package in the mail from Proactive, a package that I did NOT order.
Not only did I receive this package of products unsolicited, I was charged $36.00, plus an additional $19.99, which is still in dispute after I sent the package back usps.
I immediately canceled my account by 6 months later I am still being billed the $19.99 AND they refuse to credit the $36.00 back onto my account since the issue has taking so long to resolve. I sent the package back last year!
This company is a racket and I can’t believe people still purchase from them. Do not use proactive – it is a scam!!!
Hate Proactive-
Please save yourself the trouble, skip this crap. Go with Clinique. No I don’t work for them. I’ve been trying several different products over the last five years for my somewhat acne prone skin. I think Clinique is the best by far. I used Proactive trial size and decided I was OKAY with trying it again the second time. Then the mess started, they charged my card well over a month before they actually ” shipped out second order”. I never even received the second package. Meantime, I’m waiting and my skin seems to breakout worse than before which is bizarre. I call them, they give me this crap that I did receive package and get this..I had to PRACTICALLY argue the fact that I never did and I wanted my dang money back. The lady had the nerve to give me attitude. At this point I canceled my account. Such HORRIBLE customer service, the product made me break out, AND I have yet to receive my money. It’s been almost a month and a half..
Please people you don’t have to go through what I did to reach such successful results for your skin. Try Clinique! The customer service is awesome and they are so not ripoff’s like Proctive.
Hi,proactiv doesnt work,it’s complete waste of money. My advice dont buy it.The itchimg and burning had damage my skin even further.
It is the worst product i have ever used. contains full of acids and spoils your skin. Once they get your card details that’s it they will charge as if they like without intimating. The customer service is very bad. If you want to get rid of your pimples..just drink more water and have healthy food on time. But dont go for this kind of money wasting products.
I tried Proactive as well and after one use my face & throat swelled up turned red and my neck started to peel after feeling like it was on fire. This was the worst reaction I ever got from acne products and it took days to heal. Now it has been several months and the company still solicits me to buy there product nobody knows about the bad results until its to late so be warned do not use if you have sensitive skin!
Unfortunately Drs Rodan & Fields have concentrated in how to get to people’s credit cards rather than trying to resolve acne. They are masters in running a successful business, once they get your credit card number; your real headaches begin and in the meantime you start realizing their product doesn’t work. However, they keep billing your credit card for even products you did not order. They keep your money hoping you get busy with your life and forget to return for refunds. DO NOT use this company for any of their products. They DO NOT care about your acne, but rather making themselves rich.
Dont pick, it’s hard but don’t and your skin will heal.
If you are a picker it will take about a year of using Rosehip oil to heal most of those scars. Don’t not use Bio oil or mineral oils(they will make it worse). Some oils are good, most are bad.
Dont over wash your face, twice a day is plenty. Hot flannels may feel good and sometimes you may want to scrap your face off but being gental will get you further.
Cetaphil ($30 NZD for 5 months worth) or something similar to wash your face.
Cetaphil with baking soda to scrub your face, but at the most every second day.
DUAC (clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%) once daliy gel. Keep it in the fridge and use at night, rub all over the affected areas of sore, hard, pusy, infected pimples. ($$$ but will last 2 months. $50 NZD).
Find a Salicylic acid product and use when you get repeat pimples, you know the one that grow under the ones you just got rid of.
If your harsh on your skin it wont heal and go red, ichy and flakey and get worse.
Pimples are different to Acne. Go to your doctor, They may put you on a low dose pill to help or if you of age put you on something stronger. But these have side affects as well. Guys this works for you as well. Not all acne pills are girlie pills.
Proactive will work for some. Remember they have sensitive product too. If you have acne or pimples I would start with the sensitive as you skin is SENSITIVE. Then if it works and you hit your mid twentys try the normal one.
Good luck and if you ever get dragged into tv informercials again just google the reviews on that product before you buy.
DO NOT order from this company. They charged me for five shipments..i received one. I called to get my money back and cancel and the lady gave me a stupid story. I never got my money back but was told account was canceled. Then 2 weeks later, checked my account and an additional 27.94 was taken out again. I called and the lady said my account was not canceled. They will STEAL YOUR MONEY. Plus, it didn’t even work. PROACTIV SUCKS!
I had expectations. I’ve always been self-conscious about my complexion, and I wanted to way out. After watching a few ads from ProActiv, I decided to give it a shot. I used the product for almost a year. I saw little effects and a lot of overall dryness. I should have known I wouldn’t look like Jessica Simpson after three months. I have sensitive skin and was skeptical about using such a universal product that doesn’t tailor to individuals skin types. “It’s going to get worse before it gets better,” I remember hearing from others who saw great results from the product. I found it disappointing that you can’t consult with a professional or dermatologist with this product. ProActiv had done a great job of marketing to me because I was vulnerable and in search of a product that worked. Don’t give in. Do your research. Talk to your dermatologist, and try to be proactive about not trying proactive just yet.
Worst part is they send to you automatically. The customer service is incredibly pushy. The product is fine, to much aggravation
worst customer service ever. Trying to cancel your “membership” is essentially impossible. I was told I would receive return labels to send back a product that i NEVER ORDERED and I never received the return labels. AND the box they sent me was a 3 month supply so they were HUGE and i am being billed for 3 months in a row for a total of $90!!!! for something I never wanted in the first place and am not able to return because they will not send me a return label. Their customer service does not listen to you in the slightest and is so unhelpful that I will NEVER in my LIFE recommend this company to ANYone. I will tell everyone I know how awful this scam is and I hope you all avoid this company. I can not wait until someone files a lawsuit with this piece of crap company – screw you proactiv.
ye i want my money back
Proactiv Sucks!
Trying to cancel your account is impossible. I called them 3 times and they told me was canceled and they still send me kits and charging my credit card, i hate them!! You call the costumer services and they doesn’t know anything. Never, never use this company for anything. Althougt the products give me an allergies reaction. I hate them!!!!!!!!
Okay, Proactiv did work for me, but the effect didn’t last long. After 8 months of using it, Proactiv actually stopped working, and now I am breaking out one by one. I recommend switching products every 3 months.
PROACTIVE IS HORRIBLE!!! i do have sensitive skin, but it made my skin SOOO dry and flaky and no moisturizer would help. it made my acne worse! i got off it and my skin is so much worse to manage, yeah it will work at first but then the acne will just come back. It’s a huge waste of money and destroyed my skin i do not reccommend it!
they steal your money, send you large orders you didn’t order, it’s a piece of crap! i hate proactive! everytime i see the commercials i just scream screw you! and the customer service is ridiculous!
Proactiv has terrible customer service! I ordered Proactiv three weeks ago, and it still isn’t here yet. I ordered Proactiv by calling an agent, since I thought it was better than ordering online, but the agent put in the wrong address. She told me I would receive the package 4-7 business days later. At the end of the 7th business day I called Customer Service, and after the tedious process of getting to an agent, they tell me I can expect the package to come after 3 more days. Since I didn’t get the package after 3 days I called Proactiv again and they told me to wait 5 more business days(until Friday). When I called today, I was directed to a tracking website(Purolator), and when I called Purolator they told me they had recieved the wrong information from Proactiv. Originally I had given the agent our phone number, correct full address and my email. However Purolator didn’t have the right address, and I was told to call Proactiv again. Proactiv said they would deliver the package again in 3 weeks.
worst thing ever they won’t stop charging me for it i owe soo much money and i haven’t goten a thing and its doesn’t work!
so this product realy sucks ive been useing it for 3 days and my skin is the worst shape its been, do not try this product cause it does not work at all! save your money and try something alse!
I HATE THIS PRODUCT!!!!
it:
irritates and stings my skin
made my ace worse
dried my skin out completely
EXTREMELY PRICY!
made my acne stick out like red in a white field
0 out of 5 stars
I tried it twice. both times with NO improvement.
I have received only 3 shipments and have been charged a grand total of $107.71 —no wonder the celebs get it, it’s expensive…they probably only used it once and said oh cool. BUT this stuff doesn’t work and the customer service people ACT nice but the over all experience is the worst thing I have ever been through.
PLEASE do not fall into this pit of proactiv… they sound like a good idea but they are not. I can’t believe they made this much money so far, or wait, yes I can…this stuff is way way way too expensive.
@Kristyn: Amen
‘
I was pretty sceptical towards this product in the beginning but I decided to give it a try.
Worst. Mistake. Ever.
I now have acne where I normally don’t, at my temples, my nose and around my MOUTH! I NEVER have more than one little pimple around my mouth and that’s rare even for MY crappy skin.
I would never, ever recommend this to anyone. It is a hoax. There is no way that this company has 15 MILLION satisfied customers.
so my v-gina was breaking out really bad…i tryed proactive..got even worse now its down to my anal area i have white heads everywhere…and i always so way over 300 pounds any help? please…
My experience with Proactiv was awful. From the moment I got it, I was uncertain. It gave me new problem areas and made my previous problem areas even worse and more obvious. It also bleached my skin. I turned my bottles back in within 60 days and they sent them back to me with no money. i used that junk for 5 months.
I recently switched to Skin ID and it has done wonders for my skin
I’m 16, and I’ve had acne since I was 13. I literally hate acne with a burning Passion. I can’t stand it. I tried a bunch of products then over this past summ
er, I tried proactiv. My face would clear up for a day out of a week. And the other 6 days my face was still in mild acne condition. So I assumed the proactiv just want for me. So I stopped using it. I just switched to plain dove for men bar soap, a wash cloath, and water twice a day, I’m also using minocycline, which is a skin bacteria fighting pill that you take twice a day, and my face is the clearest its been for over a year:)
As someone struggling with acne for over 20 years, there is nothing for acne that I haven’t tried. I was using Proactiv before and, although it helped a little, it made my skin super flaky and irritated, and the acne was still there. Still, it was the best thing that I had tried, so I used it for years.
Proactiv didn’t stop my breakouts, though, and sometimes they were so bad that you couldn’t tell that I was using an acne treatment twice a day, religiously. Proactiv customer service told me to try the super strength formula, which didn’t help either.
I finally gave up and decided to try something natural after reading a couple of good reviews for Made from Earth skincare products. Boy, am I glad I did. I about two weeks of use of their Green Tea Toxin Cleanser, my skin already looked better than it did in a long, long time. I haven’t had any more awful breakouts, no more peeling and flakiness, no more irritation. Doesn’t smell bad and it’s invisible (Proactiv has a funky odor and makes your skin shiny). Now I simply wash my face morning and night with the Green Tea Toxin Cleanser, and when I see that I am about to have a breakout I use their Grapefruit Glycolic Scrub. Its smells sooooo good!
With this regimen, I haven’t had a breakout since starting using Made from Earth products. The extra nice effect is that it seems that my skin tone is becoming more even after using the products. Proactiv left me full of dark spots but this is doing a pretty nice job in getting rid of them.
My Experience with proactive is worst… i hav a oily skin… n i had less pimples in begining.. 1ce afta i started using proactive i started getting big pimples and it ws itchy kind too.. i cudnot see my face in mirror.. so finally i stopped using proactive. and started using Haldi+Honey+Milk to my face. nw my face is cleared. xcept the pimple marks.
i prefer natural treatment is far better than using other Acne products
@Gymnastgirl: the 3rd step “repair lotion” is the leave on acne treatment not a moisturizer. It is intended for only a pea sized amount to be used for your entire face. You may not be getting completely clear due to using a moisturizer that was not made to go with the Proactiv system. I recommend the Green Tea moisturizer made by Proactiv for best results with the entire system
I’m have an average case of teenage acne. I decided to use Proactiv because most of my friends just got it and they said it works really well. I showed my mom the ad and she thought it was a good deal. When I got my first kit well, first, it said it was 19.99 and on the commercial the bottles looked the 64.00 kit size. After about two weeks of using Proactiv, my face was clear. Then, I stopped using it for awhile. My face broke out really bad and when I began to use it again, I use it in the shower, it cleared my face up in some places, but my skin would burn really bad. Their customer service sucks. They stopped sending me kits, and had charged and are still charging my credit card every month, even though they have not sent them in the mail. When I called they told me that I had not payed for the previous kits and are discontinuing my kits. They charged me one more time after I canceled my products and sent me one more kit. I am never using Proactiv again! Don’t waste your money on this crap!
I ordered the trial kit and found it is the worst product I have ever experienced. Instead of cleaning up my face, it got much much worse. It went from a mild case to worst acne ever. What I hate is they even sent the second shipment without my consent and demand $67.84 in payment. I ended up have to pay to ship it back. It is complete a scam. Not worth my money.
the company is a scam !!! all they do is take your money out of your account
and are not sorry at all for thier actions !!!!!
this has ruined my skin and my life! i used it in october for 2 weeks! it burnt, flaked, got this horrible red crazy rash and it has itched ever since! it is now dec 8th and im still dealing with it amongst cystic acne! it burnt my jawline and neck! i went to the derm and he was so shocked at how bad i was! i am now on solodyn and trying to save my skin from the burns, sensitivity, and my crazy reacting skin! i cant believe i did this to my self! ive become miserable! i went from pretty, to ugly in two weeks! and when i asked them what to do they had nothing to say but ice it! they should pay for all this pain and embarrasment and doctor bills! ive been throu hell! and im still going throu it! always test a small area for a alergic reaction! learn from me and my huge mistake
I have always had bad acne. I’ve tried absolutely everything. I’ve been on acutane, used all of the face washes recommended, and nothing worked. I finally decided to give Proactiv a chance, and I love it! But it is making my skin extremly dry around my mouth and is burning. Is there any solution for this? Worth the money, but would love to not burn!!!
proactiv SUCKS. i used the deep cleaning for body and face. i used it on my face and after i rinsed it off my face started BURNING as is my face was on fire. i had to wash my face with cold water and soap 4 times to get it to stop burning. i hate proactiv
I have the same thing! Butttt I’m a 16 year old boy. I used steps 1&2 before and it helped so much! I just started up again cause I got lazy and didn’t use proactive for a while. Step 3 burns and the treatment does make my acne break out more, then clear up! It’s crazy! I didn’t answer your question but I’m just letting you know you not alone! -Corey @Sarah:
WARNING!!!! DO NOT BUY PROACTIV FROM THEIR SITE, The product is mediocre, the price outrageous, customer service the absolute worst. I tried this product when i was a teenager and i wanted to believe it worked but of coarse the results were the same as all the other products i have tried, and did not work, now in my twenties i thought id give it another try, worst idea ever!!!! It F***ed-up my face so much worst then its been in years didn’t even finish the first 60 day kit, i chunked that sh**, next step call and cancel, Haha its like they refuse to let you cancel and even after telling you that they canceled your account they send you more sh**ass product and charge whatever card they have on file, two months after they assure me there will be no more charges, they charge me again!!!! DO NOT GIVE PROACTIV YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO, THEY WILL FU** YOU, READ CUSTOMER REVIEWS!!!!!!!!!BULLSH** if i have ever seen it.
It’s crap. Proactiv is over advertised for being such a crappy product. This didnt not help my acne, in fact it made it worse. Everytime i washed my face, and then did the 2nd step, my face was very irratated and red and itchy. It also left my face very flaky and dry. With the advertising, they say it will basically clear anyones face….not so much. I feel that it hurts more people then helping them. I don’t recommend this product. Sorry proactiv, you’re not as good as you say you are.
hey guys (: i was going to try Proactive and i know how my skin is to products, and if your skin is sensitive i would suggest not using proactive everyday. Maybe every other day so that when u do decide to stop using it,your skin wont become super reliant. I still have Christmas money so ill try to buy it today! (:
<3
* Btw my skin isnt horrible,i just want it to be more smooth. Oh and i’ll tell u guys how the every other day thing goes!
I started using Proactiv a month ago and i would NOT reccomend it. I’ve tried so many things, and actually had hope proactiv might be the one, but no. it completely dried out my skin, and i haven’t seen any improvement. The only thing that works even a little bit is the free refining mask. Proactiv might work on other skin types though, but it doesnt seem to have a very high success rate. good luck trying to find a product that actually works.:(
WORST WORST WORST thing any one can buy for acne problem. Don’t book it online, they will screw you every month for $29.95 even after cancellation. This doesn’t work and they want to make fool out of you for your problem.
Better consult the dermatologist as they are doctor’s, Pro-active is fraudulent People.
Proactiv DOES NOT WORK. i have been doing it for about a year now and it has cost me a fortune, i brought proactiv thinking i would end up with flawless skin the Katy Perry and the people on the adds. over time, my skin got a little bit better but i was still breaking out, my acne never fully stopped and even then my skin was still bumpy and i found myself applying layers of makeup on everyday to try and hide those bumps so i could feel the slightest bit good about myself. Over the past month, my skin has become HORRIBLE! i’ve never ever had so many pimples in my life and i figured out it was all because of proavtiv, i’ve caked concealer and foundation on everyday to try and look better, but because of this product, my face is scared and i’m embarassed to even go down the street. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! unless you want to be literally scared for life.
Hi, like so many others I have suffered from acne for almost my whole life. I tried several remedies but to no avail. Before I got married someone had heard about Proactive and I decided to give it a try. It worked amazingly well in conjunction with birth control that also fought against acne. I still had acne here and there but It was A LOT better than before….at first.
When I got pregnant with both my children I had so much acne that my face hurt even to touch it. Not to mention that my face looked like a breeding zone for acne. Painful to have in more ways than one. The proactive did absolutely no good to me at this point. (I was informed that it was safe enough to use during my pregnancy and experienced no side effects where my children where concerned)
I went off of Proactive several times noting that if your on it for a long period of time it loses it’s effectiveness. I recently cancelled my subscription and when asked why I informed them that it is was not strong enough. For the first time i was informed that they had an extra strength formula. Nice to know eh!?! So all this time I had been using crap and paying for it and it didn’t even work like it used to.
My other beef with them is that they do not value their customers. Their willing to give good rates and deals when you sign on but after that there is no appreciation. Most companies will give you free promo offers, or great deals especially when you have been with them for a long time, proactive on the other hand will give you hard time about stupid things. Once they wanted to charge me for a shipment I had not received and when I did receive it it wasn’t what I asked for. They charged my card and I didn’t receive the item until over a month later. When I complained about it they gave me hard time.
Proactiv is horrible!
I agree with every negative thing people have said about Proactiv.
I was so excited about finding this “magic system” to clear up my acne (I’m 16 and i have moderate acne). I ordered it and got it a week later. These are the complaints i have:
1 When i got it, the “free” stuff i had requested were not in there, instead there were some other stuff.
2 I started using it and my face turned red and dry and irritated and flaky (so embarrassing! especially when you have to go places every day!) I used the product for 6 days and noticed some results (some of my pimples went away) but my actual skin looked so horrible! I have never seen it look so bad, not even after a severe sunburn! I hated the way it felt… but I continued using it, thinking that this would pass. On the 6th day, I mentioned to someone that I was using it and they strongly advised me not to use it. At this point, my skin was so dry, i couldn’t open my mouth to eat because it would crack and peel. I was not happy…
which leads me to complaint #3… Before i was advised against it, I tried contacting a Proactiv rep via live chat so that I could ask if this was normal, etc and it took forever to finally get ahold of someone, only to be told that I would have to be transferred to another rep because this wasn’t their line of work… so I waited for the other rep… couple minutes passed and I finally had no more patience and clicked out of it. I tried the live chat again and had to wait for longer. clicked out of that too. By this time I was getting mad…
4 Then I tried to contact them via email… where you type a message and type your name, email and comment and they get back to you. I typed my complaint and then tried to send it. I had to type in the security little words at the bottom to send, so I did that and it just kept coming back to the message that I typed and a new security word at the bottom. I typed in the new security word and clicked submit again. It came back to the message and a new word. It kept doing this and then I just gave up. ( I don’t know… maybe its just that I’m a little dumb… maybe it submits the message and goes back to it again, but if the message actually submitted the first time, I would have gotten a confirmation email that my comment was received, and I never got an email.)
5 I was really mad at this point and decided to write a bad review on their products page… so i wrote a review (it wasn’t all negative, I just said that I didnt really recommend this product and to consider something else…etc and that it has some really bad chemicals..) and submitted it. Well, guess what?! It’s not even posted on their page… (and it has been more than 24-48 hours, which is the amount of time they say it takes for the review to get posted.)
So to sum it up- they really are just a bunch of money sick people who don’t care one iota about other peoples acne…. it’s all about the money and the business. I intensely dislike this company and I will be calling them tomorrow and canceling my order and giving them a piece of my mind. Had I still been using the product, it would have been day 8. I stopped on day six and my skin is still extremely dry. Its embarrassing and ugly. If you are even remotely considering this company- please RECONSIDER!!! You don’t want to have acne+dry flaky skin! It will ruin your complexion and the chemicals will get into your body and your bloodstream and ruin your health, too. Use something more natural… and it will not be near as expensive as Proactiv.
I just got off the phone with Proactiv customer service. The first time I called I was hungup on because the man could not answer my questions. I then found out that my even though I only recieve a kit every 90 days I am billed $24.95 each month! That means that 90days is 3 payments of $24.95!!! I was not told this in the beginning and immediatley canceled my orders with them.
This stuff works great if you do what you’re supposed to do. Many people hate this product because they use it like I USED to use it (when I was around 14). I’d only complete the actual 3-step system 2-3 times a week. The other days I’d just wash my makeup off and go to bed and sometimes even sleep with my makeup on. You MUST wash your makeup off, and THEN begin the 3-step process with the cleanser. So you’re actually washing your face twice; one for makeup removal and the other with the cleanser. And you MUST complete the entire system EVERY SINGLE DAY! If I just skip 1 treatment, a few days later I’ll have a couple mini white heads pop up.
I *did* notice that it left the lower sides of my cheeks pretty dry, and the disappearing of my acne began to reveal severe acne scaring (since I’ve never had a clear face since I was 10). So I’ve added a few more products into my entire nightly face routien that takes about 5-10 minutes. It inclues:
1) Washing off all makeup
2) Cleansing with step 1 of Proactive
3) Using the toner; step 2 of Proactive
4) Apply Mederma scar treatment to anywhere I have scaring
5) Apply vaseline or an advanced moisturizer to the dry spots on my face
6) Apply step 3 of Proactive; moisterizer
7) If I have any troubling spots, I’ll apply the refining mask on the spot and leave it on overnight (I only do this once or twice a week).
I haven’t had clear skin since I was 10. I’m now 16 and recently (I mean within this past month or so) my face is FINALLY clear for the first time. Overall, it took about 3-4 months to compeltey clear my face. I used to have horrid acne (I was teasted in middle school, it was horrible!) and now it is finally the best it has even been.
So the key is stick to the routine, do it every single day. And if you notice your skin is getting dry, apply an additional moisterizer.
