How To Get More Enzymes
And Micronutrients

Enzymes and other micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc) are the 'tools' that your body uses to digest food. Enzymes are catalysts, in other words they speed up digestion. Without enzymes digestion would take too long, and you wouldn't absorb all the nutrients from the food. Instead the food would just rot in the gut and you would experience uncomfortable heaviness and produce gas (i.e. fart).

Why don't you get enough enzymes

Some of the enzymes can be manufactured in your body, but some have to come from your diet. These enzymes and micronutrients are very perishable and are easily destroyed. For example, enzymes and many of the micronutrients are destroyed by:

  • Cooking- Cooking above 118 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius) destroys practically all the enzymes in the food.
  • Eating dead food - Meat, dairy and other dead foods lack any enzymes to begin with
  • Processing- Processing and refining strips foods from enzymes, vitamins and other micronutrients. Freezing is a relatively safe option.

How to get more enzymes

Once you know the problem the solution is as clear as a big, red pimple on a clear cheek. Do this:

  • Eat more raw fruits and vegetables - Alkalizing, detoxing, full of enzymes, vitamins and minerals. What more do you need?
  • Eat more natural, whole foods - Less processing = more nutrients.
  • Sprout your grains - If you want to eat grains use sprouted ones. Sprouting activates the enzymes in grains and makes them much easier to digest. Ask you health store for sprouted breads and pastas.
  • Eat organic food - More nutrients & less chemicals.
  • Use a supplement - Food should your first choice, but if it's not possible for you to eat enough raw foods use supplements. I recommend digestive and proteolytic (systematic) enzymes from Baseline Nutritionals
