How Foods Cause Acne
In a nutshell here’s how foods cause acne:

To fully understand how foods cause acne you first need to know that at any given time your body contains about 10 times more bacteria than you have cells. Most of these bacteria reside in the colon and the small intestine.
Healthy human GI (gastrointestinal track = food digestion mechanism) contains about 85% probiotic or beneficial bacteria (the good guys) and 15% pathological or harmful bacteria (the bad guys). Now this is completely normal. You live in symbiosis with those bacteria and they perform many vital functions in your body.
Things get complicated when the bad guys take over.
Lets keep things simple. Probiotic bacteria assist in digestion and abortion of food. The bad guys on the other hand cause foods to putrefy and ferment.
I bet you have noticed that the kitchen garbage bin has a tendency to get smelly after few days (faster if you live in a warm country). Basically the same thing happens in the gut (colon). The only difference is that the colon has billions of time more bacteria and it’s humid and warm. In other words, ideal environment for bacteria. So foods tend to rot much faster there.
Like that wouldn’t be disgusting idea alone, but it can also cause adult acne and other health problems.
The colon has a protective lining that keeps these acne causing toxins from entering your body. However, certain toxins, bacteria and parasites damage this protective lining and expose the blood and lymph vessels underneath it. Now instead of picking up nutrients these vessels become an avenue for toxins, bacteria and parasites to enter the body and cause adult acne.
Congratulations, now you have leak gut syndrome (LGS) and adult acne will soon follow.
All of this really boils down to improper digestion. If food is not digested properly it sits in the stomach for hours and takes long time to pass through the small intestine and colon.
The more undigested food enters the colon and the longer it sits there the more rotting takes place.
The main reasons (as far as I understand) for improper digestion are:
- Lack of digestive enzymes and other micro-nutrients. Complete digestion requires the help of enzymes and many micro-nutrients. If these are not supplied by food and/or the pancreas digestion slows down significantly. Cooking, for example, completely destroys these digestive enzymes and makes the food difficult to digest.
- Improper food combinations. Different foods require different digestions. Proteins for example are digested in acidic juices where as carbohydrates require alkaline juices. If these are eaten together neither gets digested properly and they just sit in the stomach.
- Low fiber diet. Foods low in fiber take longer to pass through the colon than high fiber foods do. This gives the bad guys more time to do their deeds.
- Stress. Stress is shown to slow digestion by preventing the secretion of digestive juices in the stomach.
