Cutting dairy cleared my cystic acne

I have suffered from acne for several years. I have gone through countless topicals and numerous antibiotics. I have tried the zeno zit zapper thing. I have tried proactiv, and birth control and nothing had a lasting effect.

I knew that I was lactose/dairy sensitive, because whenever I ate anything with heavy cream (like ice cream), bad things would happen to my poor intestines.

The severity of my acne changed, sometimes it was ok, but sometimes I didn’t even want to leave the house. I don’t have a large number of pimples, but the pimples I do have suck. They are large, red, extremely painful, and last for weeks. I think this is cystic acne, I’m not sure.

I started to notice a link between the amounts of dairy products I was eating, and the severity of my acne. I thought it was because of all the hormones they give cows and chicken to maximize production, and antibiotics to make up for their horrific, disgusting living conditions.

I started to buy organic, and that helped, I would say 25% of my problem.

Recently, I stopped all dairy consumption, and my face is completely clear. I have not had one new pimple, and that is coming from someone who always had AT LEAST 2-3 of those large painful zits.

Not being able to eat dairy is inconvenient, but they are coming out with a lot of substitutes.

Soy products are sometimes an acquired taste, but you get used to it. I don’t care for meat at all, and I can’t have dairy, so I have a hard time getting all my nutrients. But I would rather watch what I eat, than have acne.

Congratulations for getting over your acne.

I’d just like to point out that soy products are often not much better than dairy products. Soy is also very allergenic and can cause acne to many people.

Rice and various nut milks are the best substitute for dairy products.

I also have what I was told by a dermatalogist is cystic acne. I started getting severe acne in college and it just got worse. I’m in my thirties now and still researching for an answer. I think that your theory on dairy makes sense. I appreciate the info. I also agree about organic. I think for severe acne, avoiding chemicals and hormones is a plus. The problem is so many factors seem to take part in this horrible problem we suffer. I have also found that hydration is a big part too. I live in a very dry climate, but moved from a coastal, humid climate for 18 years. I think the dryness has taken a toll on my skin and made the problem worse. Topically, I’ve tried a lot and gotten LOTS of suggestions. The balance between salicylic acid and moisturizing is key. And of course a good cleanser for sensitive skin that won’t dry! I think the only way for us to find the answers to our skin problems is to compare what we know and hopefully find what works for each of us. A good dermatologist is important, if you have access, but they still don’t know all the answers. I’m very glad you found your answer. Thanks for sharing!

You are right that there are many factors in acne. That’s why I recommend making a holistic effort to improve ALL areas of your diet and lifestyle. That way you have the best change of getting good results.

Don’t consume soy man!!

Soy (in the US especially) is horrible stuff! Don’t do it my friend! It’s just as bad (if not worse) than milk.

Trust me, do some more research on it, or you can ask Seppo about it. He might be willing to tell you more.

From now on, no more soy… Alright? It’s horrible!

(anti-nutrient; extremely toxic)

Agreed! Stay away from soy. The only safe dairy substitutes I know are rice and nut milks.
